We have a special work environment because we have a special climbing community. If you love climbing or adventure, UpTown could be your work home. How many work places do you know where staff hang out even when they aren’t working? That’s us.

You must be responsible, reliable, and hard working. You must be personable and outgoing. You should be helpful and encouraging because new climbers often need somebody to nudge them in an UPward direction.

Lastly, you gotta be able to have fun and have pun. We joke with each other. We are self-deprecating. And we don’t take ourselves too seriously other than in the way we run this gym. Oh, and if you don’t like dogs, you need to know we have two gym dogs that work here five days a week.

This is not the place for you IF you can’t be serious about safety, if you cut corners, or if you can’t be kind. And seriously, if you don’t want to rock climb, please don’t waste our time or yours.

Membership Staff

Full Time and Part Time

Our Membership Staff are the face of UpTown Climbing. They welcome every new climber with a smile while making sure the front desk runs smoothly. After fitting new customers with shoes and harnesses, they deliver our gym orientation, making sure guests understand our rules and how to properly use our walls and gear. They also rove the gym, monitoring for safety.

As Membership Staff, you will need to have absolute attention to detail. You will need to be able to speak loudly and clearly in delivering orientations. You will learn our climbing gym management software for retail sales, checking in both members and walk-ins, properly using our calendar booking system, and then some.

If you don’t already know, you will be expected to quickly learn industry standard proper belay skills. We will teach you.

Belay Staff

Summer Time and Part Time

Our Belay Staff primarily work with groups and parties to help get them up the wall. We host birthday parties every weekend so you must enjoy working with kids and be prepared to wrangle cats. You will need to be helpful, patient, encouraging, and kind, all while monitoring kids to ensure their harnesses remain snug and that they (and their parents) are following our rules.

UpTown Summer camps run June-July, Monday-Thursday, from 8am - noon. Summer Camp staff will do all of the usual Belay Staff stuff, plus organize and execute games, crafts, and other activities for the kids.
